Holiday Safety

The holidays are filled with memories and gift-giving, but unfortunately during this same beautiful season, crime rates everywhere increase. As shopping for holiday gifts can get stressful at times, it’s important not to let the hustle and bustle of the season lull you into forgetting to shop safely. Shop smart and safe with Bradley Square Mall’s tips to staying safe this holiday shopping season:

Shop with a Friend
Shopping with a friend or relative makes for a fun outing and offers safety in numbers. Shop when the center is less crowded -- during the week, for example. Bradley Square Mall has extended holiday hours for your holiday shopping convenience.

Oh, Where Did I Park?
Park your car in a well-lit area and keep your vehicle doors locked and your windows shut. “Be aware of your surroundings and if you see anything suspicious or if something does not feel right, leave the area immediately and call security or 911," said Stacia Crye-Shahan, marketing manager of Bradley Square Mall. Shahan recommends keeping valuables out of sight including cell phones, digital devices, purses and packages. And, as you return to your vehicle, have your keys in hand. Remember to make a mental note of where you parked your car, or better yet, jot it down on your shopping list. Being unable to locate a car after a day of holiday shopping can cause undue confusion and stress.

Avoid Identity Theft
Keep your purse or wallet close to your body at all times and do not swing or carry a purse loosely. Carry only the identification information and the credit and debit cards that you'll actually need to shop. When paying for items, do not flash large amounts of money and keep cash in separate areas of your purse. When using a debit card, do not allow anyone to see you enter a pin number. Make a list of your major credit cards, their account numbers and the phone numbers to call if cards are lost and keep this list at home.

Carrying Packages
To help carry larger packages, rent a stroller or what is commonly called a “flip and shop” stroller. Avoid making multiple trips to your car with packages as someone may see the packages you are loading into your trunk.

Kids are Shoppers, Too!
Always keep an eye on your children. Remember to let children look around and have fun while they shop, but they also need to understand that it's important to stay near their parents. It is a good idea to bring a babysitter, friend or older child to help watch your youngest, especially when waiting in long lines. Teach your children what to do in the event you get separated. The best option is to instruct your child to look for a security guard or police officer, or go to the Guest Services Booth where trained individuals are there to help.

The ATM Machine
Always use ATM machines in a populated location and be aware of the environment around you. Try to use ATMs during the daylight hours. If you must go at night, pick a machine that is well lit and visible to passing traffic.

Day After Thanksgiving Shopping Tips

This year, as Bradley Square Mall prepares to open its doors to holiday shoppers at 6:00 a.m. on November 27 for the ultimate jump-start on Black Friday bargains, the popular holiday shopping destination wants their guests to be armed and ready to take advantage of every precious shopping minute.

“Preparation is the key to holiday shopping on Black Friday,” said Stacia Crye-Shahan, marketing manager for Bradley Square Mall. “It’s simple. The more organized and prepared you are, the more opportunity for getting the best deals.”
Bradley Square Mall, a shopping haven that houses a collection of brand name retailers including, AƩropostale, American Eagle, Bath & Body Works, Finish Line, Hibbett Sports, and Maurices, offers the following must-have advice for guests to gobble up the extraordinary savings on the first official holiday shopping day of the season.

1)Revitalize- Enjoy a hearty Thanksgiving meal and have someone else do the dishes so you’ll be energized and ready for a good dose of holiday shopping at 6:00 a.m. the day after Thanksgiving.

2)Be Savvy, Study!- To ensure a successful shopping experience, the day must be well researched and planned. Do your homework on big-ticket items ahead of time and create a master list of gifts you would like to purchase, so your day will go more smoothly.

3)Map it Out- After your list is complete, create a plan of attack. Be sure to consider the location of each store you want to visit, the items you’ll need from them and the times that coupons expire. Lucky for you, there are over 30 stores at Bradley Square Mall so you won’t waste any valuable shopping time.

4)Power Up!- The key to capturing all the great deals is to stay well nourished and hydrated. Pack some almonds and cashews and a water bottle along with tissues, hand sanitizer and anything else you may need throughout the day.

5)Be an Early Bird: Be among the first at the stores that matter to those on your list. Early openings were made for serious shoppers like you, so grab your coffee and get going!

6)Foot Fetish- Fashionable high heels and sexy stilettos may be on your master list of gifts, but they should not be on your feet while shopping! Wear comfortable shoes with cushioning at the ball and heel, or buy specially made gel inserts so you can travel comfortably from store to store.

7)Walk it Out- While the spot near the entrance may be calling your name as you circle through the parking lot over and over again, save yourself the time and energy and choose the spot farther away. Not only will the fresh air keep you awake and on your toes, but you’ll also avoid the traffic of the parking lot the closer you are to the exit!

8)Get in the Spirit- Mood has a lot to do with your success- stay positive and you’re sure to find the best holiday gifts!

BLUE Friday!!

This is my last and final post of the season! I can't believe how quickly November has come and gone. Seems like just yesterday I was stressing over trying to FIND all these deals, and now here we are at the end. But don't think I slacked off for this last post! I most certainly did NOT. I've got some great, GREAT items for you from our very own KMart! Kmart has an event called "Blue Friday" on the day after Thanksgiving and there are sales and discount store-wide that are awesome. I've featured so many great clothing deals, ways to dress the whole family and where to buy the best shoes of the season. I've given you advice on "guy hobbies" and jewelry buying. But my LAST and final post is about one thing and one thing only: toys!

Toys play an essential part in Christmas for kids. I can't remember a Christmas as a kid that wasn't made PERFECT by that one toy I had been nagging my parents about for months. Here are some deals at KMart that might help make Christmas for your kids as special as mine were:

Starting with the Thanksgiving Day Sale items... that means that these items are ONLY on sale on Thanksgiving Day! Barbie Pink Doll with Fashion is on sale for just $9.99. This Barbie is so cute with two extra outfits and a doll! Check out this deal!
Tonka Mighty Dump Truck or Tough Crane for just $14.99. What little boy doesn't need a Tonka Truck to play in the dirt with? Give the gift of dirt and memories with a Tonka Truck for that special little boy in your life!

Boardgames are Buy One Get One Free (of equal or lesser value)! All of my favorite family memories involve a boardgame, someone getting ticked off and stomping out of the room until the whole family marched up to their room and persuaded them to come back downstairs for hot cocoa and popcorn. Make some special memories this holiday season with a never-ending game of Life, or a suspenceful game of Clue!

Now for the Doorbusters, that are only on sale Friday from 6am to 11am. The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Raceway is on sale for just $29.99. Have an intense race with that special "race-loving" child in your family this Christmas! See who makes it to the Finish Line first: Mickey, or Goofy!

Huffy Major Trouble bicycles for boys and Huffy Major Flirt bicycles for girls on sale for $69.99. These bikes include a rear pedal brake for safety as well as a rear and front hand brakes for training purposes.

And last but not least, the Friday and Saturday sale items! Disney Princess Teapot and set is on sale for $9.99! Start teaching etiquette now with this little tea set. Invite her favorite stuffed animals and maybe a few dolls to enjoy a sweet tea party with you, her and this cute little tea set!

Polly Pocket Limo and Polly Pocket Sea Chic Boutique Bag are both on sale for just $9.99 each. Polly is quite the rage these days, and I know what my little sister will be getting from me this Christmas: a Polly Pocket Limo from KMart. Be careful of small parts with these toys. Spend time changing Polly's wardrobe several times over with the Sea Chic Boutique Bag, and then sed her off to the party in her own limo!

Take your little guy on his first camping trip into the living room with this Koolaroo 6 piece kids' Construction Zone tent combo for just $17.99. The set includes a tent, sleeping bag, backpack, flashlight, water bottle, and whistle with compass. Have so much fun, just dad and son, telling ghost stories with the flashlight. Then, snuggle into your tent for a good night's sleep!

Watch your skateboarding daredevil scoot up and down the street with this Light-Up Scooter on sale for $19.99. The wheels and standing board light up, and the adjustable handle raises or lowers to fit your child's height.

Looking for fun the whole family can enjoy? Check out this 44 inch portable Lifetime basketball hoop for just $69.99. It features a telescoping height of 7.5 to 10 feet high. It includes a 5-year warranty and is perfect for a family game of three-on-three!

I hope you've enjoyed this blog as much as I have! Spend time with your family this holiday season and make lasting memories that will always be special to you and your loved ones. Come by Bradley Square Mall for the Day After Thanksgiving Hullabaloo event including several contests and drawings for giveaways and even a Grand Prize of getting your electric bill paid by Bradley Square! Stop by Guest Services for more information! Check Facebook.com/shopbradleysquare for more information on store hours and the Hullabaloo event! Thanks for shopping, bargain hunters, and as always... thanks for reading!

Dress the Whole Family

I don't know about you, but I know that when my mom goes shopping before Christmas, she has two main goals: to find gifts for everyone, and to find nice looking outfits for my family. Now, let me start by saying that the second goal doesn't sound like it's all that difficult, however you should know that I'm 21 and my siblings are 17, 15, 8, and 4 with three boys in the middle and a little girl at the end. That makes things a little more involved. You can imagine her struggle to find outfits for this size range at decent prices.

But, never fear!! The bargain hunter is here! And I've got great news for all those moms looking to clothe their family this season: Belk has some awesome deals for the Day After Thanksgiving sale that will help you not only find those cute outfits for everyone in your family, but also do it in ONE STOP! Check out these DoorBuster deals:
55% off entire stock of juniors' fashions tops... Sometimes those dress pants you bought last year just need new shirt to make them look brand new! These shirts are so cute and will make your holiday "dress up event" extra special. Pick up a new pair of boots to finish the outfit and you're set!
60% off Saddlebred sweaters and sportshirts and Chaps sweaters... Dads everywhere will look great in a new sweater from Saddlebred or Chaps. They come in several different colors and sizes, so be sure to take a look at these great sweaters!
60% off kids' pant sets and dresswear... Including brands like Headquarters, Rare Editions, and Good Lad, these kids' outfits are adorable! These are a "must look" for the Day After Thanksgiving sale!
50% off Timberland fleece and crewneck waffle knits... Ever feel like teenage boys are the hardest to shop for? Especially for nice shirts that keep them looking their age, but also a step above skater shoes and a Tshirt?? These fleece accomplish JUST that: not too dressy, not too casual. They come in six different colors and sizes from medium to double XL. It's the perfect compromise for the holiday season!

And mom can find a nice outfit during this sale, too! Don't forget to get a little something for yourself! 55% of entire stock of misses and petite dresses and pantsuits... look fabulous in a great new "little black dress" that never gets old for a formal event. Be sure to check out the shoes too! A great shoe really finishes an outfit.

These are all DoorBusters, so be sure to come in between 6 A.M. and 1 P.M. to get these awesome deals, and dress the whole family in ONE STOP! You can't put a price on convenience! These are bargains if I ever saw one! Happy hunting!

Items We Use Everyday

I starting thinking about it, and I wondered: what are the items in my life that I use everyday and probably couldn't function without? I wanted to know what items I cared enough about and used enough everyday that their quality really counts. I listed:
  1. toothbrush (that's just bad hygiene not to use this everyday and low quality ones hurt your gums!)

  2. Starbucks travel mug (if you're anything like me, you literally CAN NOT function without coffee and a good travel mug makes all the difference in my mornings)

  3. deodorant (self explanatory... and there are some out there who need to take this more seriously!)
  4. planner
  5. cell phone

There are obviously many more objects that I use daily that are vital to my everyday success, but the last one is what I want to focus on: a cell phone. I can't tell you how many times I've heard the phrase, "I just use my cell phone for making calls and receiving calls... that's IT! Why do I need some fancy phone??" Well, I'll tell you why: cell phones are the ONLY kind of phones anymore. The landline rate has dropped significantly in the past 3 years and more and more people are cancelling their landlines because they only ever use their cell phones. I don't have a landline. The only landline I even use is at work. Things are changing and to keep up, you need to maintain the quality of the products you buy.

AT&T Cellular Sales in Bradley Square has a few really great deals on phones that you should know about. The first is the LG Xenon. The Xenon is offered in red, black and blue, features a 2 megapixel camera with flash and has video abilities built in. It has a 2.8 inch touch screen on the front that slides back to display a full Qwerty keyboard. The phone costs $100 after a mail-in rebate and is a "big bang for your buck" phone. This phone would be for that person that uses their phone primarily for calling and texting, but also occassionally needs to download something or check their e-mail. This phone is Bluetooth and USB ready and also features the AT&T video share ability that makes sharing special moments with others quick and easy. The phone is great quality for a low price so check it out!

What about the person who wants to use their phone for everything from e-mailing to texting, to picture sharing to checking Facebook? We have a phone for you too. Check out the Blackberry Curve 8900. It features a 3.2 megapixel camera with flash and video recording. This Blackberry has a quicker, faster processor that makes e-mailing and picture sharing faster and easier. It can hold up to 10 different e-mail accounts from virtually any e-mail provider. It has an expandable memory of up to 32 gigabytes with an added memory card. The phone costs $200 after a mail-in rebate, but the pay off is fabulous. You can use this phone for pretty much everything including event reminders, Internet searches and entertainment when you're stuck in a 3 hour lay over at JFK. Be sure to put a Blackberry Curve on not only your Christmas List, but also your birthday list, Easter list and St. Patty's Day list!

These are both great phones at awesome prices and deserve a look. Stop by AT&T Celular Sales in the mall to talk to a sales representative about these phones! Happy hunting!

This junior's Scoopneck Necklace dress in black features beautiful rhinestones around the neck line, drawing the attention to your beautiful face! It has a razorback cut in the back of the dress and cinches in at the thighs to accentuate your legs. This dress is a great choice for a special date or a New Years Party for only $30.

The junior's Cheetah Print Ruffle Tiered dress is the kind of thing you would wear to "meet the parents". It's very flattering of your curves, but also covers up enough skin to make it classy and modest. It features a high waist line to accentuate your small waist, but the tiered skirt keeps it fun and flirty! This dress will help you feel confident and sassy for only $46.

This junior plus Studded Scoopneck dress is an awesome choice for our more conservative audience. The studded neckline is just enough extra to take the dress from plain, to classy and beautiful. With no defined waistline, this dress looks great on any body type and can be worn year round with tights or boots. It has a satin hem that gives it a little more "pop" and makes it appropriate for virtually any occassion. Feel great and look fabulous in this dress for only $40.

Put a great pair of pumps with any of these dresses and you'll be set! Deb can be your one stop for the whole outfit. Check out these High Heeled Cuff platforms in black patent leather for just $15, or these Leopard Ruffle Trim heels for just $20. You can mix-and-match these shoes with the dresses above to create some awesome outfits. Then add this Croco Clutch in coffee to the mix for a beautiful evening outfit. The Gift of Heritage

We all come from different backgrounds and stories, but one thing that we have in common is the heritage of our land. Upon first account of the discovery of this land, explorer Christopher Columbus happened upon a people that already occupied the area. He named them "Indians" because he thought that he had made it all the way around the world to India. He later realized that this was in fact a completely different continent and many hundreds of years later came the establishment of America. Regardless of what ethnicities are a part of your genetic makeup, if you live in the United States of America you are a part of the heritage of this land: the history of Native Americans.

This holiday season, when you spend time with your family, take a moment to ask someone about your ethnic history. Strike up a discussion about where you come from and what that history means for you and your family. A new store has come to Bradley Square for the holiday season. It's called Spirit of the Hawk and they feature beautiful Native American artwork. Everything in the store is handmade, coming from several different reservations including a Navajo Reservation in Utah and a Zuni Reservation in Arizona. They have Cherokee pottery made right here in Tennessee, blue and green turquoise jewelry from New Mexico as well as pottery from the Navajo Reservation in Utah. Most of the items are signed by the artist and include information about where it came from. The art ranges in price from $4 to $74 and includes several different animals like buffalo, eagles and lizzards. The jewelry ranges in price from $18 to $200 depending on the featured stone and origin. These are beautiful pieces that are definitely worth a look! Be sure to visit the store to see the awesome detailed hand work!

I love turquoise jewelry and this jewelry is gorgeous. For the prices, this jewelry is a total bargain! The store puts a lifetime guarantee on all of their pieces and there is no doubt it will look beautiful on any woman. It's a very unique gift with a very unique history that makes it even more meaningful. This makes a great gift for mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters and girlfriends. This season, give the gift of a heritage remembered. A piece of jewelry like this will remind that special woman in your life of who she is and where she comes from... and let's face it: all women need a reminder of how unique and special they are sometimes. Tell that special girl in your life that a mass produced gift just wasn't good enough for such an exceptional person. Make this holiday memorable and unique.

That's my pick for today! I hope you take a few moments to remember or research your heritage this holiday and as always... Happy hunting!

Something a Little Different

I've started this blog at least four times now, and I honestly can't think of how to start a blog about Brazilian Jiu-jitzu. Yeah... that's right. Today's pick for the 25 Days of Thanksgiving blog is a Martial Arts gym. Here's the thing: we already talked about the effect holidays have on our waistlines, but obviously vitamin supplements aren't enough... you have to incorporate physical activity. What better way to do that but by learning self defense and disciplined martial arts? Cleveland Mixed Martial Arts Academy opened in Bradley Square about a month ago, and already they have large classes and full participation.

The gym offers Women's Muay Thai kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu for men, women and children at the basic and advanced levels. They also offer open mat times and private lessons.

Most people don't know what Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is, and I didn't before this gym came around. To clear up some confusion, Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a martial art and combat sport that emphasizes grappling and ground fighting. It promotes the idea that a smaller, weaker person can defend themselves against a larger person by applying joint-locks and chokeholds. Most of the submission holds feature against the joint pressure that allows a smaller person to obtain control, or disable a larger person based on positioning and manipulation of joints.

"It's all about leverage," says Jiu-jitsu instructor, Tommy Wales. Wales received a Black Belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Renato Tavares and now teaches at the gym. He is the newest instructor and is also qualified to teach Muay Thai kickboxing and mixed martial arts. The gym invites anyone to come try a trial class for free. They are currently featuring a special introductory training rate at $60 a month for two classes a week, or unlimited training for $75 a month. Both of these offers include open gym and cardio training. Private lessons in Brazilian jiu-jitsu are $75 an hour with a Black Belt instructor.

I was a little concerned about exactly what this mixed martial arts thing was, and I wanted to get some hands-on experience to better inform the public about this martial art form. What better way to do that, but to actually DO it? Check out the video below of me learning some basic defense moves. It's not as hard as I make it look! I promise!

Shoes, Shoes, Shoes!

The truth is, everyone loves shoes. Even guys who say they're "manly men" love the feel of a new pair of shoes on their feet! The problem is that not everyone loves shopping for shoes. Personally, I'm an addict and probably should seek help for my shoe obsession. However, for those of you who don't like to roam the aisles of a shoe store admiring every detail of every shoe, I've created a "Shoe Fashion Show" just for you. I went over to The Shoe Dept. in Bradley Square and found these awesome holiday "must haves." I've chosen three different shoes, in three different styles, for both guys and girls. They are stylish shoes at great prices. Be sure to check them out!

Hot Cakes Brown Boots for just $20

ModaReflex peep-toe black dress shoes... just $25

Converse AllStars for women in blue (shown in black) at $40

Rocky Sport UtilityMax outdoor boots on sale for $90

Robert David black leather square-toe dress shoes for only $25

Converse AllStars for men in red (shown in white) at $40

"... might as well be comic books!"

Batman. Spiderman. Watchmen. Ironman. Everyone loves these movies. But do you know where they really came from? These movies were all modelled after comic books by Marvel. I don't know much about comic books, but when I was walking through the mall I couldn't help but be drawn into the Dicehead Games store. They have this huge suit of armour standing in the entrance and all these movie posters plastered on the walls... I just can't help but want to go inside. Once inside, though, I feel immediately lost and confused. I've never read a comic book in my life. Ever. I've never had any friends that collect them (at least not publicly) and I've just never really seen many of them. So my question was: why comic books? I finally got the guts up to ask the store owner, Shane Grubb. He gave me some insight as to why comic books are a good hobby and why he is so passionate about it.

"For younger people, it encourages them to read," says Grubb. "It gets them unplugged from the Xbox and TV and into something more constructive. And for guys: every guy's got to have a hobby... might as well be comic books." He has a collection of over 40,000 comic books with big name publishers like Marvel, DC, and Dark Horse. They range in publication date from 1948 to 2000 and include several key issues like the first appearance of Riddler in Batman. The prices range from $2 to $300 based on the publication date and condition of the book. For collectors, this store is a playground. Dicehead also sells several family based board games including Settlers of Catan. This German originated game is based on goods management and involves critical thinking, decision making, and strategic trading and is great for a "family-night-in." No one gets eliminated in the game, and those that are behind can strive for goals that are within their grasp.

Dicehead Games has so many great items and they are all worth a look. Stop in and flip through a comic book, especially if you never have. If your kids are looking for something to collect, comic books are a great collection to encourage. Also, this collection can pay off in the end. Some comic books go for $16,000 or more with age. Be sure to stop in and check it out! And as always, happy hunting!

"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas..."

... so get a coat and stay warm, for cryin' out loud! It gets pretty cold close to Christmas, even in Tennessee, but AE can keep you warm and stylish. Their new outerwear line is fabulous and affordable. Buying a good coat is a big investment, and I have a confession to make: I bought my peacoat 5 years ago and I'm still wearing it... and guess where I got it? American Eagle. That's right, American Eagle coats are durable and lasting, not to mention warm and stylish. My peacoat is missing a button, the leather loop for hanging it up on the neck is ripped in half, and there are a few hot-chocolate stains on the outside near the left pocket. But the coat has maintained its value and it has served me well. That's why my bargain hunter's pick today is the outerwear at American Eagle.

They have coats for both guys and girls, and in both casual and dressy styles. The coats start around $99 and come in several different colors for each style. Check out the video below about the coats! These coats look great on everyone and they are definitely worth the money!

Also, when I was in the store looking at these awesome coats, I happened to wander over to the cologne and perfume tables. AE has recently released a new scent called True. It smells wonderful and I am also adding it to the bargain shoppers' list. It comes in both a perfume and cologne. I'll admit: I was slightly obsessed with the men's cologne Real when it came out two years ago. I bought it for my boyfriend, brothers, and dad! I wanted all the men in my life to smell that good! True is a very different scent, but it's fresh and flirty. The large bottles cost about $35, the perfumes come in a smaller bottle that run about $13 and the colognes come in a spray can that run about $9. Be sure to put American Eagle on your "day after Thanksgiving shopping spree" list!

Happy hunting, bargainers!

Suit Up for the Season

My daddy is a technician for a natural gas company in southern Ohio and has been for as long as I can remember. He wears work boots, a hard hat, and grease on his hands everyday to work. The only time I ever saw him really dress up was for the Christmas service at our church. It's the only time in my memory I can remember him wearing a suit, and boy did he wear it! He looked so sharp in his suit with some obnoxious Christmas tie that me and my brothers bought him. The whole family dressed up special, but when I think back, I can actually see him in that suit in my mind. It made an impression on me, and it's something I will treasure in my heart forever.

Obviously, it wasn't the suit that made the man, or the memory, really. But let me tell you, my dad MADE that suit and it was something special seeing him grease-free during the holidays. In light of that beautiful memory, I stopped in at Hixon's to find out if they had any special deals or bargains. "And what to my wondering eyes did appear, but a bargain on suits for Daddies everywhere!" Hixon's has namebrand suits for just $99. Brands like Lucci, Tazio and Cianni offer quality, lasting suits at the lowest price possible. They do on-site hems at no additional charge and will even help you put together a snazzy suit, shirt, and tie combination. They have suits in gray, black, tan, brown, and several other colors on the $99 rack and its definitely worth a look. Ties start at just $10 with a purchase of a suit, and shirts start at just $19.95.

Hixon's will size you for your suit before you buy one, and help you pick the best suit for your occassion. Due to the fact that guys like my dad who work with their hands and don't have time to think about what color shirt will look best with a black suit, and then what tie pattern to get to go with it, I've put together some "Suit Wearing Tips". These are things to remember when buying a suit and wearing it:
  1. Get sized! It's very important that you know the size you wear so that the suit fits you well.
  2. Pick out a style or cut of a suit. These range from 2-button, 3-button, flat-front to side-vented suits. All the styles are different according to preference of fit and feel.
  3. Choose a color. Hixon's sells suits in black, brown, tan and several other colors. Some colors are more appropriate for certain occassions.
  4. Get alterations! My biggest pet-peeve is guys that wear suits with pants dragging the floor, or sleeves that are too short. Get it taken care of before you wear the suit.
  5. Match the shirt and the tie. It's important that the shirt and tie match each other. The sales representatives in the store can help you with this.
  6. Shoe color should match belt color. No brown belts with black shoes, or vice versa. The two items should match each other.
  7. Shirt color should contrast the suit color. When you're wearing a dark suit, it's usually better to wear a light colored shirt to contrast. This also depends on the tie color and style.
  8. Socks should match the suit. I can't count the number of times I've caught my grandpa wearing navy blue socks with a black suit! Always match the socks to the suit color.
  9. Be sure that your suit is appropriate for the occassion. A highly formal occassion may call for a different style of suit, while a less formal occassion may call for a suit without a tie. These factors all depend on the occassion. Hixon's sales representatives can help you make these decisions too.
  10. Wear what YOU like. We can give you advice all day, but if you don't like the way you look, it doesn't matter. You need to be comfortable and confident in your suit, so don't be afraid to voice your opinion!

These are just a few things to think about when you're buying a suit. Another little tip is that square-toed shoes are in style this season, so think about that also when you're picking out your suit and putting together your fabulous look! Stop by Hixon's to talk to someone about getting yourself "suited for the season!" Happy hunting!

Holiday+Good Cookin'= Growing Waistline!!

Every year at Thanksgiving, I (and others) fall victim to the "good-family-cookin'-so-I-eat-like-I've-never-tasted-food-before" monster! Everyone starts the season saying, "Nope... not me! This year I'm only eating what I NEED to feel full. Period." And no matter how many times we tell ourselves that we don't need another piece of turkey, or another scoop of Aunt Rhonda's amazing sweet potato casserole, or just one more piece of cousin Kyla's famous chocolate dipped candy... or just one extra roll from Dad's secret recipe dinner rolls... or... can't... stop... thinking... about... FOOD! Obviously, I'm a recurring victim.

The temptations are just too great, and the food just smells too good! Why not indulge? You can go to the gym next week and work it off. But will you? I won't. I know I won't because I always find a reason to be too busy, or too tired, or too something. It's a vicious cycle of never-ending mess.

But... as part of my bargain hunting, I just happened to stop by GNC to find out if there was something I could do about this monster... and I found some "monster medicine". It's called Body Toner Censor by Tonalin. It has Omega 3, 6, and 9 oils that help your body burn tummy fat. This vitamin supplement helps catch the fatty acids that become "love handles and tummy flub" before they become those things. It helps your body burn the fat that is already there by pushing fat cells into your muscles, where they can be broken down in your cardio and workout routines. This supplement helps to burn fat cells and increase muscle mass for a leaner, healthier body. It's important that you talk to a GNC sales representative before your start taking this vitamin to ensure proper use and best results. Body Toner Censor starts at $39.99 a bottle, but at GNC you can buy a bottle and get the second bottle 50% off. That means that you AND your husband/wife can beat the monster at a great price!

This is a bargain, and it promotes a healthier you in the long run. Stop in GNC to talk to someone about it today! Happy hunting!

"Oh the weather outside is frightful..."

... but the hoodies at Aeropostale are so delightful! Aeropostale has zip-up hoodies that are a bargain, bargain, bargain! These hoodies are always on sale at different times throughout the holiday season and you never know when they might be on clearance! (hint, hint) They come in both guys and girls sizes and they are perfect for the cold season. Stay warm in several different colors and styles. The hoodies start at $20, but there are lots of hoodies currently on clearance or on sale. These make great gifts for those “hard-to-buy-for” teenagers in your life because everyone can use a hoodie.

Aside from being a social media coordinator, I also currently work at a gymnastics gym that requires me to wear athletic clothing to work. These hoodies are perfect for those kinds of things because you can wear it, take it off, or work in it and it’s comfortable no matter what. They are also pretty durable. My “basketball-playing, skateboarding” little brother got an Aeropostale hoodie a couple of years ago for Christmas and he is STILL wearing it. It’s been through the ringer, but it has stood the test of time. It’s a good buy! Be sure to come by Aeropostale to check out their other sales too!

Aero also has some really great graphic tees in the store right now. Their prices make shopping for Christmas in this economy easier, AND the quality of their products make those purchases well worth the money. Let's face it: kids wear clothes, they grow out of them, or they tear them up eventually. Aeropostale makes clothing for those "basketball-playing, skateboarding" teenagers that are worth the money, but won't break the bank. Be sure to check it out.

Happy hunting!

"Girlfriend-That-Is-THAT-Serious-NOW" Gift

A couple days ago, I posted about a gift for the "girlfriend-that's-not-THAT-serious-YET" gift. I thought it only fair to go ahead and talk to the guys out there looking for a gift for the girlfriend that just might be THAT serious.

Like I said before, I realize that guy's struggle with jewelry, mostly because they have a budget. Really... I get it. I'm a poor college student too, so I REALLY understand your budget issues. This gift won't break the bank, but it's beautiful and definitely says, "I love being your boyfriend." Check it out: the new Love's Embrace collection at Kay Jewelers. The collection ranges from $80 to $1800, and includes several different styles and pieces. The specific necklace I'm picking as my favorite is this heart-shaped charm with a tiny diamond in the center. The necklace is sterling silver and starts at $80.

This necklace is beautiful, and I definitely recommend it. Kay's also has several other pieces that are gorgeous if you're looking to spend a little more on that special someone. Check out the website, or stop by the store to talk to a sale's representative. Kay's also offers a "no finance charge for one year" deal that is subject to credit approval. This is one of my favorite jewelry stores and I jsut spent an hour this weekend talking to someone about jewelry with my special someone! Kay's can be trusted with your jewelry and offers a "Lifetime Diamond Replacement" policy. This means that you take your jewelry in to be inspected every 6 months, and if there is any damage or evidence of a loose diamond, Kay's will fix it for free within this plan. It's worth a look, guys. Be sure to check it out.

This collection was created with the slogan, "You'll always be surrounded by the strength of my love." This is a great collection to choose from when you're trying to tell someone special that you will always be there for them, dedicated and dependable. This holiday season, think about those that you care about and remind someone how much you care about them with a Love's Embrace piece. This gift is also great for mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and best friends.

Happy hunting, shoppers!

Not Your Daughter's Jeans

Time has an effect on every woman’s body. Gravity takes over in places you aren’t able to control anymore. The truth is that every woman faces these challenges, but these challenges don’t have to determine your wardrobe. This product was created with the intention of reminding women that they’re beautiful and sexy, regardless of their age. Introducing Not Your Daughter’s Jean: the first ever age-defying jeans.

These jeans literally give you a tummy tuck and bring in the areas that may have “slouched” with time. They accent the natural curves of your body and bring in those “not-so-great-in-a-dressing-room-mirror” areas without feeling too tight or uncomfortable. The denim undergoes a butter wash that softens the jeans so they are comfortable and soft for all-day wear. The Lift Tuck technology actually makes you look a whole size smaller. These jeans have been featured on The View, Good Morning America, and Oprah, and have been endorsed by celebrities like Rachel Ray, Jane Seymour, and Diane Sawyer. Also, these jeans are made right here in the United States. Check out Not Your Daughter’s Jeans at nydj.com.

The Painted Lady in Bradley Square is the only store in Cleveland that sells these jeans. Be sure to stop by to check them out today!

"Ready? 1, 2, 3... Memories!"

If you had a "holiday packing list", what would be on it? Probably the obvious stuff like decorations, food, and music... maybe then the clothes and gifts for everyone. What else? Ear muffs, sleds, a Christmas tree. All on the list; but one of the most easily overlooked items we all have for the holidays is a camera. (Now you're saying, "Oh yeah! Forgot about that one!") It seems so obvious, yet we often forget about the importance of a good, quality camera until the time comes when we need one. How many times have you taken pictures on your digital camera, dumped them onto your computer, only to find out that they're blurry or low quality? How many times have you been at a special event taking pictures when you wished you could send them directly to your Facebook so your family in Tulsa could see them immediately? When was the last time you actually thought about the quality of your camera?

It's easy to forget how important the quality of a camera is when you're in the moment, taking pictures, and enjoying the event. Then, the skies gray all too quickly when you get home and find out your pictures aren't at all what you thought they would be. These are your memories! Don't let your camera quality ruin these special moments. I've got a deal for you: Radio Shack is selling the Casio EX S5 Digitial Camera for about $150 and it's a bargain. The features include a 10-megapixel resolution (which in English means "high quality pictures") and has an instant record button for recording videos. The YouTube Capture Mode feature makes it easy to shoot YouTube-friendly videos. It has a 2.7 inch LCD screen on the back with a Face Detection feature that boxes the subjects of your picture so you can know where to center the picture. The camera comes with a rechargable battery (for all those of us without rechargable batteries, we know the significance of this feature!) and an optical zoom. It's small enough to fit in your pocket, but durable enough that you won't worry about breaking it while it's in your pocket.

Now here's the kicker. This camera comes Eye-Fi Compatible and if you're like me, you don't have a clue what that means. Well, I did some research with the guys down in Radio Shack and we found out that Eye-Fi is a wireless feature that allows your camera to basically connect to the Internet and send pictures directly to your e-mail or Facebook from the camera. Of course there is a catch: Eye-Fi requires an Eye-Fi memory card to be purchased and put in the camera. The good part of the catch is that you don't have to have a cellular service, a contract, or anything like that with any cellular company to use this. Once you buy the memory stick, you can put it in your camera and then start sharing. Once you set the wireless network you want the camera to recognize (can recognize up to 25 networks), everytime the camera comes in range of the network it will upload the pictures to your computer and sharing sites automatically.

This camera is a great deal because it offers high quality pictures with the ability to do so much more. If you're looking for a great camera that you're planning to use for quite awhile, this is a deal. You spend $150 and have the opportunity to make thousands of memories! Don't go too cheap on this kind of thing... don't cheat your memories! (INSIDER'S TIP: This camera is on sale now, and is predicted to be on sale at $130 at least through Thanksgiving. Don't wait to check it out!)

The camera comes in several different colors and takes an SD card for memory. The Eye-Fi is an optional feature that depends on the purchase of an Eye-Fi card that starts at $80 and increases with features. It's worth a look! Stop by Radio Shack and ask them about the Casio EX S5 10-megapixel camera. Have fun with this "shopportunity"! Happy hunting!

Buying a Car/ Shoe

Buying running shoes is much like buying a car. You go to the show room and start looking around, making your first choices about visual appeal. You want to figure out just what kind of style you think will best suit you and your lifestyle. Then, you talk to a sales person about taking a few out for a test drive, just to see how it feels. Does it hug the road? Does it feel like a smooth ride? Could you drive this car for the next 5 years? After the test drive, you start talking about prices and financing. You want to get the biggest bang for your buck, so you're looking for a quality car for the lowest price you can find. Once you've narrowed it down and commit to buying, you will spend the next three weeks convincing yourself that you can afford the car and that it's the greatest deal you've ever run across... and eventually you will stop thinking about it, and just drive the car because it's comfortable and you like it.

Buying running shoes is so similar, it's scary. You're first looking for style: cross-country, walking, leisure... eventually you decide which style will best fit your purpose and lifestyle. Then, you try a pair on and walk around the store (test drive). Are they comfortable? Do you have enough arch support? Can you run in these for the next year or so? Finally, you sit down and start looking at prices. You want the best shoe for the price you pay. Once you buy them, you will spend the next three weeks contemplating your purchase and convincing yourself that it was a good purchase. I've found a good purchase that you should check out.

Finish Line offers an exclusive line of Nike running shoes called Skyline. They come in mens, womens, and kids and they run about $90. Now, take a deep breath because you have to remember that these shoes are quality running shoes and will last you quite awhile. Remember my rule about buying shoes: if you know you will wear them at least the same number of times as the dollar amount, then it's a good purchase. Will you wear these shoes 90 times? Most definitely.

These shoes scored a 4.7 out of 5 rating on Finish Line's online shoe rating, and 100% of the customers who rated the shoe also recommended it as a good buy. They come in a variety of different colors, varying color availability based on gender. Nike Skylines are exclusive to Finish Line and is one of their best selling shoes. Even though the shoes are a little more expensive than most of the other items I have featured so far, they are definitely worth the cost. Check them out!

Also, Finish Line is currently selling all their College Team Hoodies at 2 for $40. Teams include Notre Dame, North Carolina, and of course Tennessee. If Finish Line doesn't have the team you're looking for in the store, they can order over 200 different teams in different styles and color combinations. INSIDER'S TIP: These hoodies usually go on sale on the day after Thanksgiving at 2 for $30. Make sure to get your favorite team hoodie for the sports fans in your family this holiday!

Now go and make the most of your "shopportunity"! Happy hunting!

Give Back

The truth is that cancer has touched every person's life in some way. Whether it be a friend, co-worker, family member, or classmate, cancer has taken over the world of healthcare. Every year, maurices gives back to the community in several different ways. They host clothing drives, benefits for local animal shelters, and several other charity benefits. This Thanksgiving and Christmas season, maurices is giving back to the American Cancer Society.

Meet Paisley. Paisley is the name of the plush dog that maurices will be selling this season on behalf of the American Cancer Society. The net profits of Paisley will go to the non-profit organization that daily searches for a cure. He is a Portuguese Water Dog with a cute sweater and a great cause. Stop by your local maurices to pick one up, starting mid November.

maurices also has some awesome new accessories. I was "hunting" this afternoon when I ran across their headband rack. These headbands are completely cute, and they are a must-have this holiday season. With feathers, bows, and flowers, glam your hair with a cute headband. Then, my eye got caught on some glittery jewelry on the rack beside the headbands. Really cute beads and long necklaces are the perfect addition to your outfit for those upcoming special occassions.

This holiday season, remember those you love... even those that are no longer with you. Stop by maurices to donate to an awesome cause and get a cute little dog for your generosity. Help the American Cancer Society keep family members and loved ones around for another holiday, and another, and another... Give back.

Decorate for the Season

Think of your favorite phrase, saying, or Bible verse. Now imagine that you could put in on your wall, above a doorway, or over a picture frame temporarily. Imagine that you could put it up just for the holiday season. It's completely possible. It's called Vinyl Wall Lettering by QuickSigns in Bradley Square. The letters are made from a vinyl, self-adhesive material that sticks to the wall, but can be removed without damaging the drywall or paint. These are perfect for dorm rooms and they are priced for a college student's budget. Listen up, bargain hunters: these Vinyl Wall Letters start at just $10.

That's right. I know it probably doesn't seem real, because today you can't even buy a whole meal for under $10, but these easily removed decorations start at just $10 a phrase. The phrases come in a variety of different fonts and colors. There are several examples in the store that include phrases like "Home is where your story begins..." and "The most important things in life aren't things." QuickSigns also offers customized orders. This means you can pick your phrase, pick your font, and pick your color. The customized phrases start at $10, but prices vary based on size and text. This is a holiday bargain! Where else can you find a holiday decoration that doesn't have to be just for the holidays?

Also, QuickSigns makes life-size Wall Graphics. These are life-size decals of your favorite picture or design. Johnny loves football and you have a picture of his first touchdown... get it made into a Wall Graphic. Susie is attached to the family pet, Bosco, and you have the cutest picture of the two of them in the backyard... get it made into a Wall Graphic. These wall clings can be removed and "re-stuck" other places also. They start at just $40 and prices vary based on size. Decorate your home this holiday with Wall Graphics and wow your guests with comforting phrases and life-size photos.

Stop by QuickSigns today to find out more about these services. I'm still on the hunt, and I can't believe the bargains I'm finding! More deals are coming, so stay tuned... and as always, Happy Hunting!

Everyday Shoe

Everyone has that pair of shoes that they call their "everyday" shoes. It's the pair of shoes that are so worn out, the soles are coming apart, they look like they've been run over by a semi, and there might even be evidence of the latest adventure in the rain still lingering on the top of the left shoe. Here's the problem with "everyday" shoes: they're so comfortable, that you never want to get rid of them.

Well, here's your chance! I found these really cute clogs in Shoe Show that are just perfect for the role. They're comfortable, they slip on, and they go with just about any "everyday" outfit. They are flats (no heel), so they are suitable for walking or working on your feet for long periods of time. These Drexlite clogs are the perfect replacement for those old, worn out "everyday" shoes. They come in cordoroy, suade, and flanel so you can decide what "everyday" look will be best for you. They come in tan, dark brown, and gray flanel. These also make great gifts, especially for someone that you know might also have an "everyday" shoe problem. (Let them GO! Just let them go...) The shoes run at $12.98, which comes out to under $15 with tax. The rule for buying shoes, any kind of shoes, is that if you know you will wear the shoe at least one time for every dollar it costs, then its a valuable purchase. These shoes are a valuable purchase! They can be worn with jeans, sweat pants, or your favorite pair of "everyday" pants. Stop by Shoe Show to check them out.

Now the time has come for funeral arrangements to be made for your old "everyday" shoes. A proper burial for these kinds of shoes requires that they never be worn by any other foot, so do NOT try to give your nasty, paint covered, dirt weathered "everyday" shoes to Goodwill or Salvation Army. Give them the shoes that are still functioning, no rips and no tears. Take a moment of silence to remember all the good times you had in those shoes. Then, look forward to more wonderful memories in your NEW "everyday" shoes.

I wouldn't lead you astray! This is a bargain if I ever saw one, and I've seen plenty. Make the decision to ditch the old "everyday" shoes, and move forward. Happy hunting!

"Girlfriend-That's-Not-THAT-Serious-YET" Gift

There always arises that question during the Christmas season for the couple that has only been together a couple of months: what is an appropriate gift that says "I'm really into you" but doesn't go too far in the Gift-Giving Unwritten Rule Book? Girls are pretty resourceful and tend to find gifts on their own that send that exact message. Guys, on the other hand, often struggle with this concept. Most end up spending too much and making their girlfriend feel guilty for not spending more, or they don't spend enough and make her feel like the relationship isn't as important to him as it is to her. It's all so complicated, and I feel bad for those guys out there looking for some help. So I made a few phone calls and... (dah dah-dah DAH!) I'm here to help.

Alright guys: listen up. I realize that jewelry is tricky for you. I get that you can't really afford to spend that much on anyone, much less a girl you've only been dating a couple of months. I found the perfect gift for your girlfriend. Zales has recently released their Hershey's Kisses Collection. (Bare with me... it's not as corny as it sounds.) The collection features Hershey's Kiss charms on an adjustable sterling silver chains. The tag says "kisses" on it and it's really just adorable. This necklace is just enough to be really cute, but won't break your bank. The collection features three specific pieces, starting at $50 and going up to $150. This holiday season, give your girlfriend "A Kiss that Lasts Forever". I've even taken the liberty of coming up with some cute ways of giving it to her:

1. Make a trail of Hershey kisses from the door to her room, where the gift/you will be waiting.

2. Get a big box, put the necklace box at the bottom, and fill it up with Hershey kisses. Give her the box and tell her, "I wanted to give you a thousand kisses for Christmas, but there is one in there that will last forever."

3. Take her to a nice dinner and at the end of the evening, ask her if she wants a kiss. When she says, "Yes" pull out the box and say, "Merry Christmas."

These are just a few cute ideas that you can use, or modify to make your gift giving special and memorable. Don't forget to check out Zales for other jewelry too! If you're looking to spend a little more, they have lots of beautiful pieces. The word "diamonds" is all I have to say on that topic.

I've given you the information you need to have a beautiful gift giving holiday. I've even bailed out the awqward "girlfriend that's not THAT serious YET" gift. All in a day's work! Ah, I love my job. Happy hunting!
